Traditionally dried reindeer hide – made for trips, cold and snow. The hide is nailed up and dried the traditional way, without tanning, and is scraped and brushed by hand in Mosvik.

Dried hide is slightly stiff – the feel can be compared to paper – and it is light, durable and water-resistant. It gives a lot of warmth and works excellently on the ground, in the tent and in the hammock in winter.

The hide must be hung airy and dry after use. If you want a soft hide for the sofa or living room, we recommend our tanned reindeer hide for indoor use instead.

This season's new production is now in stock in selected sizes. Choose an available size and order today.

Our hides are nailed and dried in the old, traditional way that we have learned from Sami culture. Each hide is nailed up under tension following its natural shape, where it hangs until it is dry. All hides are scraped and brushed by hand.

Approx. sizes measured along the back:

Calf: 100-120 cm

Adult: 120-150 cm

Large buck: 150-170cm

The sizes are approximate and may vary somewhat, as we measure the hides before any trimming. The sizes are based on an overall assessment of both length and width.

The colour of the hide will vary. Let us know your preferred colour, and we will do our best to meet your wishes.

A dried reindeer hide must not be confused with dressed, tanned or impregnated hide. If you want a reindeer hide for outdoor use, it must be either dried or impregnated. We prefer dried, as it weighs less and works better.

Dried hide is durable and water-resistant. It gives off a lot of warmth and weighs little. Works excellently on winter trips! E.g. on the ground, in the hammock or in the tent. It takes a lot of moisture over time before the moisture comes through and can be felt on top of the fur. This can be avoided by using another layer between the hide and the ground. Dried reindeer hide does not normally shed, but reindeer hairs are hollow and can therefore break. This can be experienced as shedding. You must also remember that this is a 100% natural product from an animal. Some people feel that dried hide smells a lot, but this can largely be avoided with proper care.

A dried reindeer hide must be dried well after use. This is done by hanging it airy and dry under a roof, or for example in a shed. It must not be stored in plastic for long periods. If you are not careful about this, you will end up with a hide that starts to shed and smell. Once the hide has been dried well after use, we recommend putting it in our storage bag for hides.

It is important that you follow our care advice so that the hide does not turn sour and start to shed. We check all our hides before they are shipped. We cannot take responsibility for the product once it has been used. If anything does not look right when you receive it, please contact us right away.
