What sizes are available?

Sizes are approximate and measured along the back:

  • Calf: 100–120 cm, approx. 600–700 g

  • Adult: 120–150 cm, approx. 700–1000 g

  • Large buck: 150–170 cm, approx. 1000–1500 g

The hides are measured before any trimming, and the size reflects an overall assessment of both length and width.

Which size works in a hammock?

Adult. A hammock narrows towards the ends, and a regular-shaped hide ends up too wide and "wraps you up". That is why TrønderRein sells hides trimmed for hammocks: https://www.tronderrein.no/en/product-page/reinsdyrskinn-underlag-for-hengekoye

Which size works in a tent or lavvu?

Adult works as a sleeping pad for most adults, in a tent, in a hammock or under a tarp. Large buck covers your whole body and most of a tent floor, a snowmobile sled, a lavvu or a floor. Large buck weighs approx. 1000–1500 g, and only a few are available from each slaughter.

Which size works for a dog?

Calf works as a dog bed. There is also a tanned hide for dog crates, but it is best suited to dry conditions. For wet conditions, dried hide in calf size is recommended. https://www.tronderrein.no/en/product-page/reinskinn-til-hund

Which size works for children?

Calf works as a sleeping pad for children. There is also a dedicated dried children's hide of approx. 60 × 80 cm that is easy to roll up and strap to a backpack: https://www.tronderrein.no/en/product-page/reinskinn-til-barn

Which size is most popular?

Adult. It is the best-selling and most versatile size, it fits well on a backpack and it weighs little.
