Reindeerskin "parka" jacket
People have used animal skins in Arctic regions for hundreds of years, as they are perfectly designed to withstand the extreme winter temperatures. The reindeer skin parka is a unique piece of clothing that very few people in the world own.
The parkas are 100% handmade. They are made exclusively from reindeer skins from calves. The skins are purchased from Sami reindeer herders in Jämtland, Sweden. The Sami, who have lived from reindeer herding and fishing for centuries, thus indirectly benefit from this, which contributes to the sustainability of indigenous communities. Northern peoples have been dependent on reindeer (caribou) for food, clothing and shelter. Therefore, hunting wild reindeer and domesticated reindeer herding have always been important for Arctic societies.
Reindeer leather parkas are made by hand to order.
Both simple parkas and more detailed, intricate designs are produced.
The jackets are surprisingly light and weigh about 3 kg.
Prices:
• Basic parka in small from NOK 27,000
• Detailed parka priced upon request.
